State of Health (SoH)

A State of Health (SoH) check shows how healthy the high-voltage battery in an electric or hybrid vehicle is compared to when it was new.

Autocom SoH - for everyday workshop job

Electric and hybrid vehicles are now part of the vehicle parc in many markets, increasing the need for workshops to handle service, diagnostics and repair.

In the workshop, an SoH check can support troubleshooting, service, used EV sales, warranty cases and customer documentation.

How does Autocom SoH work?

With Autocom SoH you use your ICON diagnostic VCI and software CARS. Connect your ICON to the OBD socket in the vehicle to read data from the vehicle’s battery system.

You can get information such as:

• the battery’s estimated health in %
• whether the battery has lost capacity
• cell balance and any deviations between cells/modules
• charging history or load-related values, depending on the vehicle and system
• fault codes or warning signals related to the battery

After the check a report can be printed and handed over to the customer.

FAQ about SoH

Why is SoH important?

A battery with lower capacity can reduce driving range and affect the vehicle’s resale value.

What does the test show and how?

SoH is shown as a percentage and indicates the battery’s remaining capacity compared with its original condition when the vehicle was new.

How can a low SoH affect the vehicle?

A lower SoH value can mean reduced range, less efficient charging and a lower resale value. It may also lead to more frequent charging stops and a higher risk of costly battery-related work over time.

Can driver behaviour affect the battery?

Careful driving and good charging habits can help slow the process.

If the driver avoids frequent full charges and letting the battery run completely empty, they can help protect the battery over time.

However, SoH usually reflects natural battery wear that cannot be reversed.
